History
NAIOP, the Association for Commercial Real Estate, has undergone some dramatic changes over the past years. The organization began as a small group of owners and developers of industrial parks in the eastern U.S. who formed the National Association of Industrial Parks (NAIP) to facilitate a forum for the open exchange of information on development. NAIP officially became NAIOP in 1967, after an increased emphasis beginning in 1974 on public affairs. During the 1980s, NAIOP grew in leaps and bounds and expanded to include brokers, lenders, consultants, and architects in addition to office, industrial, and retail developers. Today, NAIOP has over 15,000 members and chapters throughout North America.
