For another long-time favorite of park goers, try the Shockwave, a one-of-a-kind coaster that doesn't have seats. Riders are strapped in standing up, an amazing feat for a ride that twists, turns, and even flips 360 degrees. For the family member that doesn't love the stomach-twisting roller coaster sensation, a visit to Dinosaurs Alive is sure to astound. There are even some animatronic dinosaurs that the public can control.

In an around the King's Dominion campus, there are several reasonably priced lodging options for travelers who are focused on getting the most out of their passes. The nearby town of Ashland is about a fifteen minute drive, and lodging options are available ranging from low cost to high comfort. For a longer stay more appropriate for a family vacation, Richmond is less than a thirty minute drive and offers a wide range of lodging options and a variety of alternative activities.
Best and Worst Times to Visit Kings Dominion
The Kings Dominion season runs from June through early September, while events like the Halloween Haunt are available outside of the normal schedule. Soak City hours may be slightly different, so check in advance before planning a trip if the water park is your main destination. Earlier in the season tends to be better weather, and weekdays are always less crowded than weekends. Try to aim for a warm, but overcast day when the weather report isn't calling for rain, and you'll enjoy the shortest lines and best service.

Preferred parking costs slightly more, but after a long day of strolling over paved walkways, it might be worth it for an easier walk back to your car.
