The first generation of automated behavioral testing relied on imprecise photobeams to detect large movements. Second-generation video tracking improved resolution and detection, but reduced the subject to a single point in space and lacked the ability to differentiate individual behaviors. Our software tracks not only the body of the animal, but also the head, tail, and individual limbs.
