Brenco, whose name is an acronym for Bronze Engineering Company, manufactures bronze journal bearings for railroad freight cars and tapered roller bearings. The company manufactures its own components, which allows it to maintain high quality standards in the rail industry. It maintains 60 percent of the United States Market share of bearings for new railcar builds. Brenco offers a full range of support services to its customers, including service-engineering support for maintenance and installation of its products and partnering with suppliers and customers to develop and test new products. In July 1996, Brenco was acquired by Varlen Corporation, whose operations are concentrated in the railroad component, heavy truck, automotive and petroleum analyzer industries. In August 1999, Varlen was acquired by Amsted Industries. Founded in 1949, Brenco has headquarters in Petersburg, Va.
