Headquartered in Roanoke, Va., the Blue Ridge Mountains Council is a nonprofit organization that serves more than 16,000 youths and families annually. It operates Cub Scouts , Boy Scouting and Venturing programs. The organization offers educational programs for boys and young adults between the ages of 7 and 20 to build character, train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship and develop personal fitness. Its Learning for Life program promotes the development of social skills. It conducts training for adult leaders on topics related to leadership and life skill development. The organization offers adventure and day camps that include a variety of activities, such as climbing, swimming, archery, shooting and campfire skits. It is supported by communities through the Friends of Scouting campaign, the United Way, special events, foundation grants, investment income and individual donations.
