One of the oldest Masonic Lodges in the United States, it was founded in February 1783 as Lodge No. 39. Five years after receiving its charter from the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, the Lodge sought and received a new charter from the Grand Lodge of Virginia, as Alexandria Lodge No 22. George Washington was listed as its Charter Master, and in 1805 the Lodge changed its name to reflect the contributions of, and honor to, the former President.
The Lodge is housed in the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. The National Memorial sits on land purchased by the Lodge in 1905. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month. Visiting brothers are always welcome, but the Lodge requests advance notice if you plan to visit—dark suits and ties are the preferred attire for meetings
