History
The Governor's Institutes of Vermont was originally created to supplement a lack of Arts programs in Vermont schools. Since then, GIV has expanded to provide students with 10 different Institute topics, ranging from Arts, Global Issues, and Entrepreneurship to Engineering, Astronomy, and Environmental Science and Technology.

The Governor's Institutes of Vermont (GIV) is Vermont's premier accelerated enrichment program for Vermont high-schoolers. GIV Institutes are in-residence at Vermont colleges and universities, providing high-schoolers with an opportunity to experience life on a college campus and courses at the collegiate level. GIV offers 10 different Institute topics for students to explore their interests and passions, providing them an opportunity to find direction for future learning and potential career avenues. With Institute topics spanning the Arts & Humanities and STEM fields, there is something for every passionately curious young Vermonter at GIV!
