The Frost Stone House was opened as a museum in 2002, under the ownership of the Friends of Robert Frost. In 2017, after running the museum for 15 years, the Friends of Robert Frost gifted the house and the property to Bennington College.

In December 2017, thanks to a generous gift from the Friends of Robert Frost, Bennington College acquired the Robert Frost Stone House Museum in nearby South Shaftsbury, VT. Frost's years in Shaftsbury marked his rise as one of America's great poets; there he won the first of his four Pulitzer Prizes and wrote his iconic poem
