House of Troy's roots go back many years. The business was founded by Everett Bailey in Montreal in 1947. He operated a small custom lamp manufacturing company selling to gift and department stores in the area. Norm Bailey took over in 1960 and began specializing in picture lights. He moved the business to North Troy, Vt., in 1962. Kent and Natalie Mitchell purchased the business in 1982, and, in July 1984, House of Troy introduced a line of high-end piano/desk lamps. It set up space in small parts of permanent showrooms and in its own showroom in Dallas. In 1986, part of the manufacturing was moved to Hyde Park, Vt. Each part is rolled, polished, buffed, sprayed and inspected and all lights are assembled by hand.
