Utah Nonprofits Association is the umbrella membership association of nonprofit organizations in Utah. Incorporated in 1990, UNA was created by, and for, people who strive for a stronger, more professional nonprofit community in Utah. The organization focuses on providing mutual support, management development through training opportunities and sector-wide advocacy. UNA is the only statewide membership association that reflects the full diversity of the nonprofit sector in Utah. UNA is Utah's official statewide affiliate of the National Council of Nonprofits. The current membership includes over 500 nonprofit organizations and individual members. UNA's members represent organizations of all sizes and mission areas, including arts and culture organizations, historical societies, homeless and battered women's shelters, agencies that provide services to children and families, community development organizations, environmental groups, museums, food banks, and many other types of nonprofits. Ethical Standards: There is a difference between operating legally and operating ethically. UNA desires all of its member organizations to operate ethically. In response to this desire, UNA has developed The UNA Standards of Ethics for Nonprofit Organizations in Utah. These Standards incorporate a Statement of Core Values as well as ethical standards that cover nine operating areas. As of September 2001, a requirement of membership is that all organizational members have passed a Board resolution and signed an Affirmation Statement that they are working towards meeting, or have met, these Standards. Advocacy: UNA advocates for understanding of nonprofit work in the community and the legislature. We have a presence at the State and National level ( through the NCNA network and The Nonprofit Congress ; visit their website for more information ) to ensure that the needs and the goals of nonprofit organizations are recognized by our government officials. In addition, we are very interested in working with other nonprofit organizations to help them develop effective public policy plans to help promote and meet the needs of the entire sector. Networking: UNA advocates for a membership that is well linked and provides a consistent message to the public, through our Executive Director Forums, Networking Mixers and other informal sharing of contacts and ideas. There is also a members-only list serve that provides an on-line forum for the exchange of ideas and concerns to nonprofit organizations. Find out how you or your organization can join. Member Benefits: UNA advocates for efficiencies and economies of scale to put more money into direct services. Current benefits available to UNA members are human resources consulting, UNA's on-line job bank, a network of consultants with various areas of expertise, D&O, liability, health and dental insurance plans, a variety of other employee insurance plans, a pro bono legal network, group purchasing opportunities, as well as other group discounts. With our members' energy and sharing of ideas and opportunities, the collaborative focus of UNA helps all of Utah's nonprofits fulfill our collective purpose of creating better communities.
