Asian Association of Utah, founded in 1977, advocates equality for Utah s Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in areas of immigration, education and all other socioeconomic concerns of the community. The association provides direct services to assist Asians and Pacific Islanders in community integration while retaining cultural identity. Its services are funded from public and private sources and are provided by bilingual staff. The association is licensed by the state of Utah to provide counseling in substance abuse, mental health, as well as domestic violence. Its classroom programs assist new arrivals of all nationalities to develop Basic English language skills. The organization s Asian Community Counseling Enhancement and Support Services program is an outpatient-counseling program that helps to improve the family functioning among Asian and Pacific Islanders. Its Asian-Pacific Islander Life Empowerment program is an outpatient-counseling program that aims to decrease or eliminate substance abuse among Asian and Pacific Islander community.
