The Office of Licensing, administered by the Utah Department of Human Services, issues licenses to protect the dependent and vulnerable citizens of Utah. The office offers licenses for adoption agencies, domestic violence shelters and foster care providers. Founded in 1987, the Office of Licensing also licenses temporary child placement, outpatient treatment, residential support and outdoor youth programs. The Utah Department of Human Services provides child protection, mental health care and substance abuse treatment services through various divisions. Its adoption services help obtain permanent homes for children who cannot safely return to their original homes. The department also offers housing assistance to people with disabilities. The Office of Licensing is located in Salt Lake City.
