Dr. Benjamin Shapiro, MD, is a licensed adult psychiatrist at Serenity Mental Health Centers. Dr. Shapiro joined Serenity in October of 2022. He offers all his patients a comprehensive and positive care approach. Even before starting medical school, Dr. Shapiro knew that psychiatry was his calling. He majored in psychology at UW-Madison and knew he wanted to continue working in the mental health field while providing direct patient care, so psychiatry was the perfect fit. He earned his professional degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School and went on to earn the Otto Rath Psychiatry Scholarship. Dr. Shapiro strives to partner with his patients to help them make informed decisions about their health care. His patient care philosophy centers around his belief that it is important to take the time to craft a thoughtful assessment to ensure correct diagnoses before applying evidence-based practice to facilitate healing. At Serenity, he offers treatment through ketamine therapy, TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), and medication management. When he’s not working, Dr. Shapiro spends most of his time outdoors figuring out how to get all his energy out. He enjoys hiking and spending time with his wife and dog, a Vizsla. Dr. Shapiro thrives on inspiring hope in people who have faced obstacles as he guides them in overcoming the barriers to living a more comfortable and productive life. He looks forward to helping new patients meet their goals on their journey to reclaiming their life from mental illness!
