The Division of Air Quality is a public agency that is responsible for monitoring air pollution throughout the Salt Lake City in Utah. It operates a permitting branch that issues construction and operating permits to the new and modified sources of air pollution through the New Source Review program. The division also maintains a planning branch that develops plans to reduce air pollution. The Division of Air Quality utilizes computer models that are used to evaluate the impacts of new and existing sources of air pollution and understand relationship between emissions, meteorology and pollutant concentrations. Its air standards branch is responsible for ensuring that industries and residents comply with Utah air quality requirements. The division also maintains an air monitoring center that operates a network of air quality systems throughout Utah. The Division of Air Quality is a part of the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, which promotes pollution prevention.
