History
In 1975, J. Scott Thornton co-founded Texas Research Institute (TRI), later renamed Texas Research International as a parent company to 5 subsidiaries including TRI Environmental. Mr. Thornton engendered the employee-owned company with a culture of scientific excellence, encouragement, and trust. The company flourished over the years expanding into Asia, South America, and Australia while providing technical and scientific testing, materials engineering and consulting expertise to vast array of industries and government agencies. Today TRI Environmental's global service centers support projects that realize environmental protection, sustainable infrastructure development, engineering education and association and event management.

TRI performs analytical testing services for a wide range of materials including geosynthetics, pipe, soils, aggregates, rock, metals, concrete and polymers. TRI also serves as a research, sampling, and manufacturing auditing firm supporting quality assurance and material verification in support of critical materials procurement projects. TRI is GAI-LAP certified and performs routine standardized testing in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM International, ISO, BS, DIN, and GRI test methods. TRI is unaffiliated with any manufacturer or engineering firm, providing truly independent, third party services to all its clients.
