History
Tucked away in a lovely pastoral setting on the Marbridge campus, founded in 1953, is The Bridges Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Its serene, comfortable surroundings, homelike setting and attentive care promote recovery from surgery, stroke or other medical conditions, so patients can return home. The Bridges is one of four care centers on the Marbridge campus. Marbridge founder's Ed and Marge Bridges sought to create a safe, residential place of care of their son, Jim, who had intellectual disabilities. By the 1960s, Marbridge had already received national attention for its groundbreaking approach to helping adults with special needs. Gifts of land expanded the campus, and Mabee Village, a semi-independent community, and the Villa Skilled Nursing Center and The Bridges Rehabilitation were built in the 1980s to broaden the scope of residents that Marbridge could serve.
