History
Texas Health and Science University was founded as the Texas Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1990 by Lisa and Paul Lin. It was the first school in Texas approved by the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners to provide instruction in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and became a candidate for accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 1994, and was first accredited in 1996. In December 2012, the college received an initial grant of accreditation from the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), in addition to its ACAOM accreditation. Then, in January 2013 the institution changed its name to Texas Health and Science University. These changes reflect the broadened mission of the University, which allows for additional programs, such as the new Master of Business Administration and Healthcare Management programs.
