Featherlite Building Products is a manufacturer of concrete block and other masonry materials. The Featherlite Corporation began as a Texas-based, privately held company in 1949. Originally, Featherlite operated lightweight expanded shale aggregate facilities. At the time, the main consumers of lightweight aggregate were concrete block companies, so in 1953, Featherlite began acquiring block companies and has continued to expand over the years. The company now operates seven block producing and two cement bagging facilities in Texas and three other locations, which maintain inventory and sales offices. It is continually upgrading and expanding its equipment to accommodate demand, enhance product lines and improve quality. Since 1995, Featherlite has expanded or renovated its Round Rock, Dallas, Lubbock, Abilene and El Paso plants. It began producing pavers at its El Paso facility in 1995 and is now producing pavers at its Dallas facility. Featherlite is one of the largest block producers in the Southwest. In 1976, the company was purchased by Justin Industries and is a member of the Acme Brick family of companies. Featherlite Building Products maintains a location in Round Rock, Texas.
