The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is a private funding source for breast health and cancer screening and treatment. Headquartered in Dallas, it offers various research and community-based outreach programs. Established in 1982, the foundation provides funding for basic, clinical and translational breast cancer research and for various projects in the areas of breast health education and cancer screening and treatment. It has a more than 100-member affiliate network and runs a variety of grant programs in breast cancer research. The foundation offers online donation facilities and provides various internship programs. It also operates a national toll-free breast care helpline and Web site and distributes a variety of educational materials to those affected by breast cancer. The foundation has various affiliates located in Alabama, Michigan, Florida, Virginia, Hawaii and Illinois, and Germany, Italy and Puerto Rico. Its corporate partners include American Airlines, Kellogg Company, Dell, Wrangler and Holland America Line.
