Founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is one of the largest Catholic charitable organizations in the world. It maintains various thrift stores and food pantries. The society has more than 690,000 members and operates in over 140 countries throughout the world. It offers a variety of food, youth, camp and social justice programs. The society provides financial assistance, emergency transportation, homemaker and budget counseling services. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul also offers mortgage assistance, pharmacy, and foreign and domestic twinning services. The society additionally provides assistance services for victims of HIV/AIDS, substance abuse and crime. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul publishes a quarterly magazine that is sent to approximately 70,000 members in the U.S.
