PrismNet was founded as a local dial-up Internet Service Provider (ISP). The company was one of approximately 200 locally owned ISPs. PrismNet adapted its strategy and focus from dialup towards business class services, such as T1s and collocation. The company has acquired eight other ISPs. The most notable of those acquisitions was in May of 2004, when PrismNet acquired the assets of IOCOM, formally known as Illuminati Online, under the PrismNet name. In 2004, the company joined with Internet Gateway of Georgetown, Texas, which was founded as RyteByte in 1996 as a computer repair shop and dialup service provider. As Internet Gateway grew, they expanded into the wireless ISP market under the name of CIR Wireless. PrismNet provides services to the Dallas, Houston and San Antonio markets. The company was founded in 1995 and is located in Austin, Texas.
