After many years in the financial and human resource world, in 2007 Melanie decided to take another path in life and attend the Austin Schools of Massage evening and weekend program. Motivated by a heightened sense of empathy for those who struggle with pain, her first introduction to massage was following a car accident and needing relief from neck and back pain herself, Melanie's focus was learning to provide all natural alternatives to muscle pain relief by integrating various massage techniques into a therapeutic session. Since then Melanie has added experience by providing massage in a Chiropractic office setting, learning even more about the importance of addressing muscle issues when striving to correct subluxations and other structural deviations. With this knowledge base, Melanie strives to provide the best Integrative Therapeutic Massage experience she can, helping to relieve muscle tension and related pain. Melanie A Thornton, LMT is here to take care of your therapeutic massage needs by integrating several massage techniques to personalize your massage experience. Swedish - This is a gentle form of massage that uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibration and tapping to help relax and energize you. Deep-tissue - This massage technique uses slower, more forceful strokes to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, commonly to help with muscle damage from injuries. Sports - This is similar to Swedish massage but is geared toward people involved in sport activities to help prevent or treat injuries. Trigger point - This massage focuses on trigger points, or sensitive areas of tight muscle fibers that can form in your muscles. Melanie has also received training at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the area of Oncology Massage.
