The City of McAllen, Texas, Public Works Department provides citizens with reliable solid waste and recycling collection services; clean alleys, streets and sidewalks; functional drainage ways, storm water collection systems and appurtenances; and quality of life. McAllen Public Works is organized into two divisions: solid waste and streets and drainage. Solid waste maintains a staff of more than 90 people. It is divided by the responsibility for residential, commercial, recycling and brush collection. Streets and drainage maintains a staff of nearly 50 people. It is divided by the responsibility for street maintenance and repair, street cleaning, drainage maintenance and graffiti removal. Public Works provides McAllen citizenry with superior and fiscally responsible representation and preserves the culture attracted residents to move to the City of McAllen, known locally as the city of palms.
