Founded in 1990, The Literacy Council of Tyler, also known as LCOT, is an incorporated nonprofit organization that serves more than 2,500 adults annually and offers services to improve literacy skills. It provides services in collaboration with the Tyler Independent School District, Tyler Junior College, local churches, businesses and libraries. The organization offers general educational development preparation classes for youths. The Literacy Council of Tyler administers literacy classes that include adult and early childhood education for adults at Douglas Elementary. It also conducts the English as a Second Language program. The organization s programs serve out-of school and at risk youths.
