Founded in 1917, Amarillo Downtown Lions Club is a part of the Lions Clubs International. Located in Amarillo, Texas, it provides aid to blind and visually impaired young people. It provides local and international health and education services to children and young adolescents suffering from poverty, homelessness, abuse, neglect, disease and disabilities. Its clubs sponsor substance abuse and violence prevention curricula in schools. It organizes camps in more than 30 countries offering educational, recreational and cultural activities. It reduces blindness through diabetes education, early detection and treatment programs and support of research. It conducts hearing projects, including newborn hearing screenings and provides hearing aids. It improves international relations through assistance projects, exchange programs and health missions.
