History
Legacy Counseling Center was founded in 1989 by a small group of people living with AIDS. The agency is now the largest provider of mental health and substance abuse treatment for people living with HIV in the South. The agency provides mental health (individual, couples, family and group therapy) and Intensive Outpatient treatment, Supportive Outpatient Treatment, and aftercare that is HIV informed. In 1996 the agency opened Legacy Founders Cottage to help the people in our community who were dying alone without care. Currently the Cottage cares for people who are transitioning out of the hospital as well. The agency started Homebase for Housing as a central place for housing information for all of North Texas. Our master leasing program puts HIV+ people who are homeless into housing and self sufficiency programs. The Grace Project is a cluster of programs designed to keep HIV+ women together.
