KIPP Houston, also known as the Knowledge is Power Program Houston, helps children from underserved communities to learn the academic and character skills at all levels of prekindergarten to 12 grade and college. It is a nationwide movement of more than 50 schools that serves early childhood, middle and high schools students. Its KIPP to College program includes support and advising for the student and their family, access to preparation programs, college and financial aid counseling, extracurricular activities, and summer internships and job placement. The students perform various extracurricular activities, such as a rock band, school play, kickball, Frisbee, martial arts, a step team, a power dance team, cooking, knitting, story boarding and technology. Students get paychecks for academic and behavioral progress at the end of each week and then use their earnings at the school store. Founded in 1994, KIPP Houston is located in Houston.
