See history expressed through the dance styles of influential eras. Students will experience the Charleston of the 20's, Tap and Swing of the 30's and 40's, Hand Jive & Twist of the 50's, Disco, The Macrana, and today's most popular - Hip Hop. The performances will incorporate history, math skills, and the arts into an interactive blast of energy and excitement. Dreams and creativity will certainly be sparked as students converse with Houston Metropolitan Dance Company members, participate in their favorite steps and even teach some of their own styles! It's 45 minutes of rhythm, music, movement and fun for students of all ages. The Houston Met's Educational Outreach Program touched and enriched the lives of over 10, 000 students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community participants this past school year. "Congratulations on the quality of the show and the rapid evolution of HMDC into an outstanding resource for dance education and powerfully creative dance company".The dancers perform, instruct, entertain, and inspire young people to participate in the performing arts. In addition, the company provides mentorships through long-term residencies in the community. Some of the relationships we have established include partnerships with the Children's Museum, Houston ISD, Miller Outdoor Theater, Society for the Performing Arts, and Family for Urban Survival and Beyond Excellence.
