History
Hornsby Murcherson Funeral Home is a family owned and operated establishment since 1939. For over seventy-five years, Hornsby-Murcherson has served the central Texas area for four generations. Hornsby-Murcherson was first founded by B. Kay Hornsby, J. D. Hornsby, and Annie P. Carter in 1939. It was the first African-American owned funeral home to offer burial insurance in the area, and the first to be awarded a government contract for active duty service men at Fort Hood, Texas. In 1980, O.R. Murcherson, son of B. Kay Hornsby assumed operation of the business along with his wife Dorothy Murcherson. O.R. and Dorothy continued the tradition of providing a dignified level of service to bereaved families. The Murcherson family continues this proud tradition and is dedicated to offering quality affordable cremations and funerals in the Central Texas area.
