Established in 1848, Hays County Sheriff's Office is a public agency that works towards preserving peace, order and safety; enforcing laws and ordinances; and safeguarding constitutional rights. It maintains animal control, crime prevention, criminal investigations, mounted patrol and homeland defense information divisions. Hays County Sheriff's Office also has a patrol and Buda patrol divisions, which provides traffic control, residential patrol and accident reporting services. In addition, the office has a Special Weapons and Tactics Team and Crisis Negotiation Team, which deals with suicidal and barricaded subjects, hostage situations, high-risk warrants and emotionally disturbed individuals. It also operates a unit for sex offenders. Hays County Sheriff's Office is located in San Marcos, Texas.
