History
In the 1920s, Teeb Hawthorn owned Hawthorn Hardware, which also served as an undertaking establishment, on the Square in Carthage, Texas. He had caskets to sell, a horse drawn hearse to rent and a Manager/undertaker. It was necessary to send for an embalmer from Henderson, and the family took care of the burial. Teeb's son, Neal Hawthorn, was licensed and working with him. After Teeb's death, the funeral business was moved to a house owned by the Hawthorn family, and the hardware business was taken over by the manager and his son. The largest renovation of the home was undertaken in 1965, with the addition of a full sanctuary providing ample seating, music room, private family seating, formal porches with architectural columns, creating the presence of the Home today. The landmark service our funeral home was founded upon was established by the Hawthorn Family. They understood true service to the families of Panola County. This landmark service we were built on, continues today
