The Mosquito Control Division, governed by the Harris County Public Health & Environmental Services, protects the health and well-being of the residents of Harris County in Texas. The division offers surveillance and education programs to prevent and control mosquito-borne diseases, including St. Louis and West Nile virus encephalitis. It monitors the population of Culex mosquitoes. The Mosquito Control Division conducts the laboratory analysis of mosquito pools to detect viruses. The division collects and processes dead birds to be tested for West Nile virus. It hosts ground and aerial spraying activities in the areas affected by the viruses. The Mosquito Control Division organizes training sessions for citizens, schools and community groups.
