The Texas General Land Office, established in 1836, is the oldest state agency in Texas. Originally formed to determine land ownership post-independence, today the GLO manages state lands, operates the Alamo, aids in disaster recovery, supports Texas public education, provides benefits to veterans, and oversees the Texas coast.
Under the leadership of Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., the GLO continues its mission to serve Texans through various programs such as the Veterans Land Board, coastal management initiatives, oil spill prevention efforts, and educational funding from the Permanent School Fund.
