History
The land that would become the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge was initially purchased by the City of Fort Worth in 1914-1918 during the construction of the Lake Worth reservoir. In 1964 a dedicated group of wildlife enthusiasts from the Fort Worth Audubon Society petitioned the City to formally set the area aside as a wildlife refuge.
