Established in 1849, Fort Croghan was the third of four of the first forts established by the United States government to protect settlements on the edge of the Texas frontier. From 1849 until its decommission in 1853, Fort Croghan was home to Company C, 8th Infantry (mounted) USA and eventually became the headquarters of the Second Dragoon Regiment. Today's Fort Croghan is representative of the early days of what would become Burnet, TX. Visit us and see the sights and imagine the sounds of a frontier fort as you visit the blacksmith shop, stage stop, powder house, log cabins and old farm implements. The museum contains over 1200 artifacts of Burnet and the surrounding area. Come visit the Texas frontier as it once was.....come visit Fort Croghan.
