History
Flatbed - founded in 1989 by Katherine Brimberry and Mark L. Smith - is now located in a 18,000 sq. ft. warehouse which was redeveloped in 1999 as a community of creative professionals. The building, now known as the Flatbed Building also houses two other galleries and a dozen artists' studios. Visitors have compared the aesthetics of the space to New York City's Chelsea-district warehouse galleries Flatbed's gallery features works created by artists in Flatbed's studios and invitational exhibitions of works on paper by well-known artists.
Specialties
Flatbed Press, located the the Flatbed Building is a both a publishing studio for fine art prints and a gallery specializing in original prints. Flatbed Gallery is a private art gallery which specializes in original prints which were created by the artists in the studio. Scheduled exhibitions featuring prints and other works on paper are on view. A deep inventory of works on paper is available for sale and framing can be arranged through Flatbed. Flatbed's publishing studio collaborates with artists to produce limited editions of original etchings, lithographs, woodcuts and monoprints. Flatbed also does contract, collaborative printing for other publishers, dealers, artists, and institutions and is available on a limited basis for open shop work by experienced artists.
