Durham Ellis Pecan Company was established in 1928 by W. M. Durham, Sr. Durham's goal was to provide delicious shelled pecans and other nuts of the highest quality. Durham Pecan Company is family-owned. The company is located in Comanche, Texas, in the hills of Central Texas. The community of Comanche takes its name from the Comanche Indians of the Southwest Plains. Pecans were known to be a major part of the Comanche diet. Comanche County is home to 10,000 acres of native pecan trees. In addition, 38 million pounds of peanuts are shelled there annually. Durham Pecan Company shells nearly 5 million pounds of pecans and roasts more than 2 million pounds of nuts per year. The company employs nearly 50 people at its location in Comanche.
