History
The Brazos Bookstore opened in March 1974 with special focus on supporting and encouraging Houston's literary culture through author events, readings, and exhibitions. Brazos' author appearances remain the city's oldest reading series. Hundreds of writers have visited Brazos over the years to read from and discuss their works. Since 1974, Brazos Bookstore has aimed to serve Houston by providing an intelligent selection of books with an emphasis on literary fiction and local interests; by making available a venue in which authors and readers come together for book signings, discussions, and other events; and by forging relationships with businesses, organizations, and individuals in our community, thereby strengthening Houston's literary culture and overall quality of life.
