The Brazoria County Groundwater Conservation District (BCGCD) is a government organization established by Texas statute to protect and manage the groundwater resources of Brazoria County, Texas. Led by a five-member board of directors, the BCGCD works proactively with groundwater users to address groundwater issues and develop sustainable management plans.
Since its confirmation by county voters in 2005, the BCGCD has been responsible for overseeing groundwater use in the county. While it cannot tax or collect fees from private water wells used for agricultural or residential purposes, it has the authority to impose fees on certain municipal, industrial, and commercial users, as well as collect additional fees on exported groundwater.
