The newspaper was founded November 23, 1926 by Nunn-Warren Publishing Company. The company was owned by John L. Nunn and David M. Warren, both of Amarillo, and later became Panhandle Publishing Company. Nunn and Warren owned the Borger newspaper until 1946 when it was sold to Roy R. Whittenburg. Whittenburg was a member of a pioneer county family who settled in the Plemons area in Hutchinson County in the early 1900's. Whittenburg sold the newspaper to W. Glynn Morris, his brother-in-law, in 1956. Morris assumed publication until 1977 when he retired. Morris was president of the Texas Press Association in 1968-69. James Allison purchased the newspaper in 1977. The following year he sold it to Donrey Publications, which was owned by Donald W. Reynolds. Donrey remained owner until 1998 when Community Newspaper Holdings Inc purchased it. CNHI owned it until 2003. Today the newspaper is owned by Horizon Publications 2003 Inc.
