Bokenkamp Children's Center, established in 1995, is a residential treatment center offering services to more than 1,200 abused and neglected girls and boys. The center also serves as an emergency shelter for more than 60 unaccompanied refugee children upto 17 years old, from Central and South America. It provides clean and safe living conditions for children for an average stay of 45 to 90 days until their legal status is determined. Its bilingual teachers help the children learn basic skills, such as the alphabet and numbers. The center also offers classes in English as a second language. Bokenkamp Children's Center receives funding from the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement. The center is located in Corpus Christi, Texas.
