The Area Health Education Center ( AHEC ) of the Plains, an independent 501 3 organization, was created in June 2002. 2002. AHEC of the Plains is part of West Texas AHEC Program of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. The AHEC of the Plains is physically located in Plainview and offers health career development and community-based training services to the 24 counties of the region. Our mission is to address the health care provider shortage and improve health care access in West Texas through education and development of the health care work force. Danielle is the Center Director for AHEC of the Plains. She plans, develops, and implements the activities of the center. She directs the daily activities of the center, maintains the budget of the center, and establishes relationships and works with community organizations. Before coming to AHEC of the Plains, Danielle served at the Public Education/Volunteer Director for Hale County Crisis Center. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Wayland Baptist University. She is currently pursuing her Masters degree in Psychology from University of Phoenix. Camy is responsible for assisting health professions students, including medical, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner students, in setting up the logistics of a rural preceptorship. These rotations are invaluable to students, providing them with a depth of real life clinical experiences which are often difficult to find in more urban settings. She also promotes continuing education opportunities for providers in rural communities, insuring that our health care providers in rural South Plains are up to date with the advancements in the medical field. Camy graduated from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, and is currently working on her Master's Degree in Education from Wayland Baptist University. Andrea Yelek graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Communications. Prior to working at AHEC of the Plains, Andrea worked in the public relations field. Esther is the Administrative Assistant for AHEC of the Plains. She provides administrative and clerical support to the Center Director and the Center Coordinators. She assists in the planning, coordinating, and implementation of AHEC programs. Before coming to AHEC, Esther worked for the Hale County Crisis Center. where she was the Administrative Asst./Bilingual Advocate and then became the Financial Director. In addition, Esther has experience in bookkeeping processes.
