The Tennessee Valley Authority, also known as TVA, is one of the largest public power providers in the United States. The authority serves more than 8 million people in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi and North Carolina. It generates electricity at over 25 hydroelectric dams and nearly 10 coal-fired plants. The Tennessee Valley Authority manages approximately 100 public recreation areas. The authority offers capital investment loans for new and expanding businesses. It also provides site selection, community development, economic research, engineering and design services. The authority manages a river system to reduce flood damage and maintain navigation. It manages offices in Knoxville, Chattanooga and Nashville in Tennessee.
