Jonesborough operates top-notch water and wastewater systems that serve not only the Town of Jonesborough, but also areas outside of the city limits. With over 350 miles of water line in the ground, the Water Distribution Department strives to provide pristine drinking water to over 14,000 residents of Washington County. The Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment Plants ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of the water system, while the Meter Reading staff ensures accurate readings and troubleshooting of water meters.
The Water Distribution Department, led by Kevin Brobeck, a veteran of the United States Navy with 15 years of experience in the field, is responsible for the engineering and planning of the water infrastructure. They constantly search for leaks and line breaks using leak detection equipment, as water loss due to breaks can negatively impact all water customers. The Jonesborough Regional Water System serves a large portion of Washington County, obtaining raw water from the Nolichucky River and providing service from Unicoi County to the Fall Branch area. The Wastewater Treatment Plant, recently expanded, serves the entire Town of Jonesborough and some surrounding areas, ensuring the clean water effluent is properly treated and discharged into the Nolichucky River.
