Founded in 1976, Mark H. Luttrell Correctional Center has a capacity to accommodate more than 100 female prisoners. The center is a part of the Tennessee Department of Correction, which is governed by the State of Tennessee. It offers religious, medical care and mental health services. Mark H. Luttrell Correctional Center provides counseling, drug education and therapeutic community programs. The center offers the Prison Puppies Achieving Worthy Service program, which assists inmates to work with dogs for adoption. The Tennessee Department of Correction supervises more than 20,000 inmates and employs over 5,000 people. The department provides referral, advocacy and crisis intervention services.
