The Traffic Engineering Division is a part of the Engineering Department, which is governed by the City of Knoxville in Tennessee. The division maintains and replaces traffic signals, pavement markings and street signs. It monitors traffic accidents and volumes throughout the city. The Traffic Engineering Division also manages and maintains the city s parking meters. The division works in collaboration with the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Its traffic operations group keeps data on the city s roadways and is responsible for the removal of legitimate visibility obstructions. The Traffic Engineering Division also oversees issues related to run-off-road vehicles and roadway hazards. In addition, the division conducts routine traffic counts.
