TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) is a non-invasive non-pharmacological treatment for Major Depressive Disorder. TMS uses magnetic pulses delivered to the left prefrontal lobe of the brain, creating intracerebral currents for the purpose of neuromodulation. Neuromodulation retrains the brain to return to the wholeness and stability of mood which existed prior to the onset of depressive symptoms. The leading scientific theory of depression is that it is caused by an imbalance of the brain's neurotransmitters, which are chemical messengers that send signals between brain cells. The magnetic pulses delivered in TMS therapy stimulate these neurotransmitters, bringing the brain back into balance.
