Founded in 1969, Appalachia Service Project is a Christian ministry that provides housing services to low-income families living in the central Appalachia area of Virginia. It hosts more than 15,000 volunteers each year through its home repair program. The ministry s volunteers perform several repair works, including building room additions, providing wheelchair ramps, repairing roof surfaces, installing plumbing systems, updating unsafe wiring, securing foundations, digging drainage ditches, weatherizing homes, and constructing porches and steps. It operates a monthly giving program, called The Carpenter's Club, which provides books, key chains, coffee mugs and notepads to its members. Appalachia Service Project is headquartered in Johnson City, Tenn.
