Autress Russell Post 27 in Memphis, TN is a unique American Legion Post that honors the memory of Autress Russell, the only black soldier from Memphis killed in France during World War 1. With a strong history of politicians, ministers, and dual family members, this integrated Post represents all branches of service and even has a veteran from Vietnam. The Post received a permanent home in 2009, donated by Mrs. Sue Eubanks of Eubanks Lumber Company, and continues to be an active and dedicated part of The American Legion.
