Established in 1997, South Dakota Women's Prison is part of the Solem Public Safety Center, which is a government facility that houses the state correction offices and law enforcement agencies of the state, county and city governments. The prison features a more than 75,000-square-foot building with security units. South Dakota Women's Prison provides job skills training and work experience opportunities for inmates. Its inmates enter data, produce goods and work in shops to offer services for government agencies and nonprofit organizations. The prison conducts literacy and adult education classes, as well as provides treatment services for chemical dependency-related issues and sex offenders.
